The Art and Science of Feedback with Ashley Merryman - NY Times Best-Selling Author and Leadership Consultant

We can’t get better without feedback. It’s really that simple. NY Times Best-Selling Author and Leadership Consultant Ashley Merryman shares her insights from research around the best types of feedback and how to deliver it to improve performance.

In this conversation with ReliaQuest Mental Performance coaches Derin McMains and Dr. Nicole Detling, Ashley discusses:

  • Differentiating between “good” and “great” feedback
  • Distinctions of feedback between “novices” and “experts”
  • Why great feedback needs to be T.R.A.C.K.E.D.

Ashley Merryman is the coauthor of two New York Times bestsellers, NurtureShock and Top Dog: The Science of Winning and Losing, as well as having written for Time, Newsweek, New York Times, Washington Post, US News & World Report, and others.

An attorney, Ashley has won 11 awards for her work, which has also been cited in more than 1,100 books and journals. Her additional honors include being named as a Poynter Fellow for Journalism at Yale University and a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Joint Special Operations University.

She’s spoken everywhere from Yale to Fortune 100 companies, works with professional and Olympic teams, and more.

From 2018-2019, Ashley held a one-year appointment as Special Advisor of Diversity and Inclusion for then-Chief of Naval Operations, then served as Special Advisor to the Department of the Navy’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office. During her Pentagon tenure, she created “The Watch List,” a new method of preventing military sexual assault now used by the Navy and the Marine Corps.

And in 2020, she began the Sherwood Group, a consulting practice to help leaders become better leaders. And she’s the author of the Sherwood Report, a Substack newsletter on the science of performance, what leaders need to know.
