The Internet of Things (IoT) is a development that is the direct result of objects, technology, people that have been provided with unique identifiers, which possess the ability to transfer data over a network without necessarily requiring human interaction. Put another way, the IoT is an advancement in internetworking and connectivity of distinct and unique devices for the purpose of communication or initiating / carrying out a command.

Over the past few years, the growth of the IoT has been phenomenal. We now live in an age of connectivity, where technology exists to bring us together for even the simplest of tasks. This has vastly enhanced the way every day tasks are carried out.

But security concerns with the IoT also exist. Adversaries are already seeking to harvest data from these devices and exploit misconfigured devices. Because of this growing trend, we’ve authored a short paper called How the Internet of Things (IoT) is Expanding Your Digital Shadow that addresses these very concerns and provides recommendations so that individuals and businesses can better understand where their data is likely to be exposed.

Armed with better cyber situational awareness, businesses can embrace the IoT with confidence.
